The speed and torque are controlled using the armature voltage variation technique. A dual H- bridge integrated circuit motor driver (L293D) is used to drive a separately excited DC motor. An Altera FPGA DE2 board is used to implement the digital controllers that regulate both the voltage and the armature current and hence the speed and torque. In general, the output speed of the DC motor is measured and compared with a reference.
