The voltage and current phasors are needed by the distance relay for determining the impedance. In this paper, a new frame work is proposed using DSP kit, which acquires real-time signals of the currents, processes them digitally and outputs tripping signal to the circuit breaker. Algorithms of quadrilateraldistance protection function has been implemented first in PC using the Simulink/Matlab and then transferred into DSP Kit. To validate the present work, the performance of developed relay is tested by signals generated by Simulink/MATLAB simulator under different conditions. The obtained simulation results are satisfactoryenWSWANQuadrilateral distance protectionNumerical relayDSP KitA new frame work for quadrilateral distance relayArticle
