Bioactive compounds and biological activities of Eucalyptus cladocalyx Muell. leaves grown in Bainem forest of Algiers
(MS-Editions, 2025) Kirouani, Abderrezzak; Boukhalfoun, Leila; Behidj, Nassima
This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical composition, antioxidant properties, and antibacterial activities of the essential oil and extracts from Eucalyptus cladocalyx using leaves collected from the Baïnem forest. Essential oil was extracted via hydrodistillation with a Clevenger apparatus, and the methanolic extract was prepared using a rotary evaporator. Prior to analysis, 0.1 µL of the essential oil was diluted in 1:10 hexane solution for GC-MS analysis, which identified 30 constituents, with 1,8-cineole and p-cymene as the primary components. The antioxidant activity assessment demonstrated that the methanolic extract effectively neutralized DPPH, achieving 55% inhibition at a concentration of 500 µg/mL. Furthermore, the essential oil exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Klebsiella oxytoca as tested using the aromatogram method, while the methanolic extract showed notable antibacterial activity specifically against Klebsiella oxytoca. These findings suggest that the essential oil of E. cladocalyx has potential applications as a disinfectant in the pharmaceutical industry, while the extracts may serve as a food additive

Effect of entomopathogenic fungi beauveria bassiana and metarhizium anisopliae var. acridum on the haemolymph of the desert locust schistocerca gregaria
(2011) Milat-Bissaad, Fatma Zohra; Bounaceur, Farid; Halouane, Fatma; Behidj, Nassima; Chebouti, Nadjiba; Doumandji-Mitiche, Bahia
Effect of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae var. acridum on the 5 th instar nymphs of Schistocerca gregaria was studied in the laboratory. Infection by these both entomopathogenic fungi caused reduction in the hemolymph total protein. Th e average amounts of total proteins were 2.3, 2.07, 2.09 μg/100 ml of haemolymph in the control and M. anisopliae var. acridum , and B. bassiana based- treatments, respectively. Three types of haemocytes were recognized and identified as prohaemocytes, plasmatocytes and granulocytes. The treatment cause d significant reduction in the total haemocyte count and in each haemocyte type on the 9 th day after its application

Performance Enhancement of IRS-Aided Coded Index Modulation for D2D Communications Systems
(MS-Editions, 2025) Kirouani, Abderrezzak; Boukhalfoun, Leila; Behidj, Nassima
Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) is regarded as an innovative solution for enhancing reliability and spectrum efficiency for the future 6G wireless networks. In this paper, we aim to improve the spectrum efficiency and error performance of device-to-device (D2D) systems over Rician fading channels by jointly using IRS and coded index modulation (IM) concept. Specifically, at the transmitter, the system uses the spreading code’s index to transmit extra information, thereby improving transmit diversity without requiring additional power consumption. At the receiver, a maximum likelihood (ML) detection process is formulated. Simulation results demonstrate that the IRS-aided Coded IM solution achieves significantly better error performance and spectral efficiency enhancements compared to conventional D2D systems without IRS and/or without coded IM under different system parameters.
