Novel therapeutic approaches for TNBS-induced colitis rat model through intermittent fasting: a histopathological study
(Université M’Hamed Bougara Boumerdes : Faculté des sciences, 2024) Benakli, Manel; Benmoulouda, A. (Supervisor)
This study consists of a scientific synthesis relating to the beneficial effects of intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting on the histology of the spleen during colitis. Fasting means food deprivation for a period of time. Intermittent fasting is fasting in altered periods with periods of normal eating. Fasting has a beneficial effect on the metabolism and leads to a reduction in body weight in overweight subjects. It protects the hematopoietic system by stimulating the self-renewal of hematopoietic stem cells and the strengthening of immune cells. Our results have shown that intermittent fasting leads to a reduction in body fat mass, increased levels of splenic B and T lymphocytes, proliferation of the surface of the white pulp and a decrease in the splenic red pulp. Fasting improves immune defense system response and lessens the severity of inflammation in the colon.
