    Quantum chemistry

    Quantum chemistry provides the theoretical framework necessary to understand chemical bonding, electronic structure, and the spectroscopic properties of chemical systems. Quantum mechanics is a theory used to accurately describe the behavior of matter at the molecular, atomic, and subatomic scales. This discipline emerged in the early 20th century to address questions left unresolved by classical mechanics, such as the stability of the atom and the quantization of certain physical quantities. This handout has been prepared to support second-year undergraduate chemistry students (L2) in learning the fundamentals of quantum chemistry. This document combines theory, practical examples, and exercises to facilitate understanding and the application of the concepts covered. Students are expected to have certain mathematical foundations, such as operators and their properties, as well as some fundamental concepts, including the postulates of quantum chemistry, which are presented in the first chapter.

    A l’heure actuelle, les vrais enjeux des organisations se situent dans leur capacité à faire face aux risques industriels et aux imprévus inhérents à leurs activités. D’importants progrès ont été réalisés depuis plusieurs années en matière de prévention de la santé et de sécurité au travail mais ce n’est que depuis une dizaine d’années que l’attention des pouvoirs publics, des partenaires sociaux et des organismes de prévention et de santé au travail s’est particulièrement attachée à la notion de prévention des risques professionnels dans les entreprises. Cette dernière regroupe les actions collectives ou individuelles qui évitent l’apparition d’un risque lié au travail effectué ou à son environnement, ou en diminue les impacts. En effet, les activités industrielles ont toujours présenté un risque important sur le plan humain, matériel et environnemental. La manipulation d’équipements lourds, l’usage d’un appareillage très divers, l’utilisation de produits dangereux, l’exposition aux facteurs ou agents physiques tels que le bruit, les vibrations, l’électricité, les rayonnements, la température et les pressions extrêmes peut avoir des répercussions sur les conditions de travail ou sur la santé des personnes exposées. C’est pour cette raison que les risques liés à ces différents facteurs doivent être identifiés et maitrisés.
