Item Modifier parameters and quantifications for seismic vulnerability assessment of reinforced concrete buildings(2022) Oumedou, Amira; Lazzali, FarahIn recent years, some studies have identified and quantified factors that can increase or decrease the seismic vulnerability of buildings. These modifier factors, related to the building characteristics and condition, are taken into account in the vulnerability assessment, by means of a numerical estimation resulting from the quantification of these modifiers through vulnerability indexes. However, views have differed on the definition and the quantification of modifiers. In this study, modifier parameters and scores of the Risk-UE Level 1 method are adjusted based on the Algerian seismic code recommendations and the reviews proposed in the literature. The adjusted modifiers and scores are applied to reinforced concrete (RC) buildings in Boumerdes city, in order to assess probable seismic damage. Comparison between estimated damage and observed damage caused by the 2003 Boumerdes earthquake is done, with the objective to (i) validate the model involving influence of the modifier parameters on the seismic vulnerability, and (ii) to define the relationship between modifiers and damage. This research may help planners in improving seismic regulations and reducing vulnerability of existing buildinItem Vulnerability assessment of an existing reinforced concrete shear wall building(2019) Oumedour, Amira; Lazzali, FarahThe present study focused on assessing seismic vulnerability of an existing dwelling building with reinforced concrete shear walls, designed according to previous standards without seismic design. Firstly, visual inspection of the building is performed in order to identify defects, then, qualitative seismic vulnerability is assessed using existing methods. Finally, the compliance of the structure with some requirements of the current Algerian seismic regulations is examined.Item Seismic vulnerability analysis of rc buildings : case study of Ibn Khaldoun area in Boumerdes city, Algeria(2021) Lazzali, FarahThis study focuses on empirical assessment of vulnerability and fragility curves of existing reinforced concrete (RC) buildings in Ibn Khaldoun area of Boumerdes city (Algeria). In this area, existing RC buildings experienced significant damage during the 2003 Boumerdes earthquake. Currently, the area includes existing non-damaged buildings, strengthened buildings and new RC buildings constructed in place of those demolished. The proposed seismic vulnerability assessment method combines the GNDT (Gruppo Nazionale per la Difesa dai Terremoti) II level method and the macroseismic method by means of correlation between the peak ground acceleration PGA and the macroseismic intensity I. For this purpose, data was collected by investigating buildings within the area. Structural and non-structural building characteristics were identified and statistical analysis was performed. Resulting vulnerability curves obtained using the macroseismic method were expressed as a function of macroseismic intensity and the vulnerability index obtained using the GNDT II level method. Fragility curves, obtained by using correlation between the peak ground acceleration PGA and the macroseismic intensity I, showed that the highest probability to reach or exceed a very heavy damage grade is obtained for the highest values of I and vulnerability index V.Item Relevant lessons learned from the earthquakes El Asnam, 10/10/1980 and Zemmouri, 05/21/2003 on the paraseismic prevention in Algeria(EDP Sciences, 2018) Ait-Meziane, Yamina; Souici, Rania; Lazzali, FarahItem A finite element model for analysis of strong discontinuity process in elatoplastic solids(2009) Zhao, J.-S.; Lazzali, FarahItem Seismic vulnerability of algerian reinforced concrete houses(Techno-Press, 2013) Lazzali, FarahItem Vulnerability index of algiers reinforced concrete buildings(2013) Lazzali, Farah; Farsi, Mohamed N.
