Mass transfer is a central concept in process engineering and chemical engineering, encompassing all phenomena by which a substance moves between different media or phases due to a potential difference most often a concentration gradient, but also temperature or pressure gradients. This workbook aims to provide the fundamental tools necessary to model, understand, and apply these phenomena within unit operations (distillation, absorption, drying, extraction, etc.). It is primarily intended for undergraduate and engineering students in process engineering. A background in thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, and differential equations is required to master material balances, diffusion equations, and equipment design.
