Abstract
This work focus on the modeling and control of single phase five level multilevel inverters in both standalone and grid connected modes using Matlab/Simulink. The aim of this work is to conduct a comparative study with the traditional multilevel inverters : Cascaded H-bridge and Neutral Point Clamped with the recently introduced Packed U Cell nverter in terms of power quality performances. Each inverter is analyzed with its switching control PWM at lower and higher switching frequencies to evaluate the THD .The grid synchronization of the multilevel inverters is made with the same current controller using a simple PI controller .The inverter current is passed through an L filter to suppress the remaining harmonics so the output current injected into the grid would meet the IEEE standards (THD?5?). The main result of the project is that the Packed U Cell inverter outperforms the basic multilevel inverters .
