The aim of this work is to do a comparative study between the two most popular dispersion compensation techniques used in optical fiber communication links : the dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) technique and the Ideal Dispersion Compensation Fiber Bragg Gratings (IDCFBG). We have tested these techniques to reduce the dispersion effects in a single point-to-point fiber link of 120km length with the help of simulation software (Optisystem) , at three transmission bit rates (2.5Gbps, 5Gbps & 10Gbps) using three distinguishable configurations (Pre-compensation ,Post-compensation & symmetric-compensation) , at anoperating wavelength of 1550 nm. In addition the effect of the optical source (laser diode) has been investigated. The input power range adopted is from 1dBm to 15dBm.The obtained simulation results show that the IDCFBG technique has in general superior efficiency compared to the DCF technique. Finally; we applied the IDCFBG technique on an 8-Channel WDM configuration having a laser diode frequency from 193.1THz to 193.8THz with spacing frequency of 100GHz and observed the simulation results obtained at the 1 st and the 8 th channels of the system again with various IDCFBG schemes at transmission speed of 10Gbps ,the obtained results are presented in form of eye diagrams; BER tables and Q-Factor curves.en_US
