The objective of the present project is the study of the effect of a parasitic patch electromagnetically coupled to a rectangular patch via its radiating edge. At the beginning, the conventional rectangular microstrip antenna is designed at the operating frequency of 2.45 GHz and simulated using IE3D. Then the work is extended to the simulation of the same rectangular patch loaded by a parasitic element with same dimensions. It has been found that the addition of the parasitic results in a larger bandwidth due to the overlapping of the two resonant frequencies. At the end, the effect of varying the distance between the two patches and the length of the parasitic patch is simulated and studied.en_US
