Abstract

The increasing growth in the use of electronic equipments such as PC, laptops, portable electrical products and battery chargers which need AC-DC converters to provide power in recent years has resulted in a greater need to ensure that the line current harmonic content of any equipment connected to the ac mains is limited to meet regulatory legislation and recommended practices for power quality assurance (e.g., IEC 61000-3-2). This requirement is usually satisfied by incorporating some form of Power Factor Correction (PFC). In this project, an Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit based on boost converter with its control system will be introduced, which is a relatively simple and low- cost circuit. The design and simulation of boost converter with Average Current Mode control in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) will be presented in order to achieve a high switching frequency and power factor, with a low total harmonic distortion and high efficiency.
