dc.description.abstracta memetic algorithm is proposed for the coordinated design of power system stabilizers in multimachine power system in order to mitigate the electromechanical oscillations and enhance the system stability.The memetic algorithm is based on the combination traditional genetic algorithm and the Nelder-mead local search method in order to balance between the diversification and intensification so as to find the optimal parameters of the PSSs.The nonlinear simulation and Eigen analysis on the three machine nine bus system (WSCC) demonstrates the potential of the proposed controllers in the enhancement of the overall system stabilityen_US
