Abstract

This paper presents the development of single machine infinite bus system (SMIB) model for transient stability studies with detailed synchronous machine model and a Power System Stabilizer (PSS) in matlab/simulink software. The proposed method of the SMIB simulator is computationally efficient and flexible for interfacing the synchronous machine with the external network and for extending to multimachine system representation. The Simulation on the SMIB for the machine model with manual control, with the excitation system included and with the excitation system and PSS is performed to evaluate the transient stability of the system when a three phase fault on the transmission line is occurred with different clearing times. The obtained results show an accurate performance of the model developed for stability studies.
