Abstract
The primary goal of this report is to develop a robust and ef? cient Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) that addresses the limitations of traditional systems based on the C programming language, particularly in terms of memory safety, complexity, and resource consumption. Our newly developed RTOS leverages Rust’s modern programming paradigms to enhance safety and concurrency while maintaining low atency task han-dling and strict timing predictability. By implementing a modular architecture, we enable developers to customize components according to speci?c application needs, promoting ? exibility and maintainability. The RTOS minimizes kernel overhead and optimizes task scheduling,
making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including low-power Internet of Things (IoT) devices and safety-
critical systems. While we have successfully demonstrated signi? cant improvements in memory safety and execution speed compared to traditional C-based RTOS solutions, some challenges remain in fully optimizing inter operability with existing C libraries. To address this, we propose ongoing enhancements to facilitate smoother integration while still capitalizing on Rust’s safety features. Overall, our work represents a meaningful step forward in the development of real-time operating systems. This version succinctly outlines the goals, achievements, and areas for further improvement while maintaining focus on the signi? cance of the newly developed RTOS.
