Abstract

Behçet's disease (BD) is a systemic inflammatory disorder with a chronic, relapsing and remitting course of poorly understood etiology, characterized by cytokine imbalance and cellular dysfunction as well as increased nitric oxide levels. We conducted this study to evaluate the in-vitro effect of phytohormones on nitric oxide production by PBMCs during BD. A NO assay was performed using the GRIESS method on supernatants from 17 patients and 14 healthy subjects, in order to evaluate and compare the effect of treatment with phytohormones from plants and Rhizobacteria. The results of our study showed a reduction in inflammation marker (NO) levels of the same efficacy for both treatments. There was also no gender effect. These results confirm the efficacy of these two molecules in Behçet's disease. Furthermore, the data suggest that both treatments have the same effect on NO production.
